Ice Drops and Lucky Pennies

Well, I continue to enjoy making Diane's Ice Drops.  I love matching thread to gems to beads.  Sometimes they turn out even better than I expected - sometimes not so much.

I've even had requests for specific colors, and have been able to sell a few to support this hobby!
[It certainly relieves a little of the guilt of having an abundance of gems - ha!]

I also decided to try out the lucky penny stitch count Diane suggested - I love it!
Her ice drop tutorial and update on the stitch count are HERE.

Notice how the year of the penny shows in the ring!

I started thinking about using pennies for significant year's events - specifically for 2017 graduations - and decided to add a little tassel and use school colors.  I made this prototype for a 2015 graduate - but I'm having a hard time finding 2017 pennies for current graduates.  DARN IT!

I'm also pondering different ideas for the penny for bridal and/or baby showers.  I could add a "veil", use wedding colors, add pink or blue ribbons for babies, etc.
My brain can be an overactive designer occasionally :)

  1. The possibilities are endless! I love the way the date shows through the ring. I haven't found any 2017 pennies yet, either. If I do, I'll bring some along in July. I love your variety!

    1. It just works out that the year of the penny shows through the ring - funny. I'll bring pennies in July too if I find any.

  2. Theresa and I love making the ice drops too but neither of us can figure out what to do with them. What are you doing? I'm intrigued by the pennies, I see another obsession on the horizon....

    1. I have one hanging from my purse; mom hangs them on her curtains so the sun shines through! I have one friend who hangs it from her rear-view mirror. How about wine glass markers?

  3. Sadly we don't have pennies anymore but our $1 coin and $2 coin might work. Great idea.

  5. Have you tried going to the bank and asking for 2017 pennies? They might be able to accommodate that.

    1. I did ask at my credit union - they get them in regular circulation like everyone else, but they can order them. I was hoping to not have to order them, but I just might!
