My posts are few and far between, and I’m just going to enjoy without documenting 😊 After all, I’ve been blogging for about 11 years! I’ve met the nicest people all over the world, got our local Twin Cities Tatters group started with <a href="http://telamagistrae.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Telamagistrae</a>, and had fun with exchanges and so much great sharing of advice and techniques. Maybe someday there will be an inkling to return, but for now it's time to move on.<div><br /></div><div>I'll still be sewing and tatting though! And trying to put a few things in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ahappybluebirdsnest/" target="_blank">Etsy</a> shop here and there. <br />
<br />I'll end with a few of my latest project fun:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Some fun with flattened bottle caps (from Ice Drop Addicts <a href="https://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/search?q=flattened" target="_blank">Lace Lovin' Librarian</a>)</li></ul><blockquote style="border: none; I’m continuing work on <a href="https://tatsaway.blogspot.com/2020/03/14-day-tatting-challenge.html" target="_blank">Tat-a-Renda's</a> 14-day Tatting Challenge. Slow, but sure and relaxed, which is the intent! Currently on Round 7, and she has posted up through Round 12. A little each evening for me is just what I need, as the software battles and frustration during the work day leave my brain (and my eyes!) a little too tired for much handwork. But it’s coming along nicely. I think I’ll ruin the overall pattern that this doily is shaping if I change back to the variegated for a round or two, so I’ll stick with white for now. Maybe the final edge will allow for some color again? We shall see!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0KS5B4S3xSSotHjXpM9eYQyj7o0bK2-FRDhaV3gWnCHx8MuBwPdm-ZCfHsBPaa2bv515VhIJ787TDx4o9VVqnXeu_mnNUE1HLgXvWBLp0L3t6ly1YEpJRoFNbJrblhzXME8q0W2M7JKMY/s1600/82933401-84E4-4DF1-B318-CBD6F1204AED.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1481" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0KS5B4S3xSSotHjXpM9eYQyj7o0bK2-FRDhaV3gWnCHx8MuBwPdm-ZCfHsBPaa2bv515VhIJ787TDx4o9VVqnXeu_mnNUE1HLgXvWBLp0L3t6ly1YEpJRoFNbJrblhzXME8q0W2M7JKMY/s400/82933401-84E4-4DF1-B318-CBD6F1204AED.jpg" width="370" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At some point we'll be able to look back on this time and remember how it changed the world. I wonder what new ideas and norms may come from this? Will we appreciate more and want for less? Will our environment benefit greatly? What will the changes be for businesses like manufacturing, software, internet, restaurants? Without focus on the gloom and doom of the situation, we can concentrate on the opportunities for bettering the world. Stay strong, friends.</div>

Governor Walz of Minnesota issued a 'Stay at Home' order effective Friday 3/27/20 at 11:59 pm until April 10th. This is undeniably an historic time for the world. <br />
<br />
I am fortunate to be able to work at home within the Transportation/Road Construction field. It’s a bit odd to wish for road construction here in Minnesota, but it will keep myself and my coworkers employed for now.<br />
<br />
Working from home is going well - I hope this will transition many more people into the electronic world so we can quit printing so much stuff and using all that paper! I’ve been leaning more and more this way over the past few years, mostly because of work with auditors and documenting absolutely everything I do. Fortunately, it’s helping me now.<br />
<br />
So, how do you store your patterns for tatting or sewing? I use Google docs, and most often have my phone in my lap with my pattern available as I tat. I use my iPad for sewing patterns most of the time. There are times I still like my hard copy pattern out, but I’m getting used to viewing them all electronically.<br />
<br />
Currently, I’ve been working on <a href="https://tatsaway.blogspot.com/2020/03/14-day-tatting-challenge.html" target="_blank">Tat-a-Renda's 14-Day Challenge</a> in the evenings. I’m a little behind, but that’s OK! It’s a nice, easy, stress-free pattern to work on when time permits. I’ve chosen a springy colorway, so hope abounds! Phone in lap as we watch TV is the method I’m using for this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_rGDYGwBSigr1HzL_lF6MppLDG5w3RDHXCLV3svCXWeeU9jTvBJF-MIArcdARicgHzPyxBKKSh3_IBxSmwcRuQS1zgkQUOzkx1ZSwV7qyjzC1g3fErVwGJffTF05hkee-Uywf-5_5ltI/s1600/IMG_6797.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1525" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_rGDYGwBSigr1HzL_lF6MppLDG5w3RDHXCLV3svCXWeeU9jTvBJF-MIArcdARicgHzPyxBKKSh3_IBxSmwcRuQS1zgkQUOzkx1ZSwV7qyjzC1g3fErVwGJffTF05hkee-Uywf-5_5ltI/s400/IMG_6797.HEIC" width="380" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm currently adding a couple of rounds in white, so I’ll just keep it at that for the time being. I’m due for a non-stressful, enjoyable tat. I'm hoping to keep my mind on task so I have something to show for surviving this global pandemic someday. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stay healthy and safe! </div>

We are so used to instant information via social media, that I forget to take any time to blog (because yes, it does take some time) and also read blogs that interest me. <br />
<br />
Now that we are experiencing the critical shut downs and stay-at-home days, I’m home with a case of a cold and bronchitis. Normally, this wouldn’t require staying home more than a day or so, but to be safe and not spread the tiniest cold germs, I’m home. Fortunately, I can accomplish some work at home, and have the process started to be able to work remotely more often. <br />
<br />
I’m finding a little time to get some sewing and tatting done, but I’m not starting any large projects for now. I’ll save those for the possibility of being home for an extended period of time.<br />
<br />
Over the weekend I was making burp cloths. Yep. From cloth diapers. Mom has made many for her great grandies, and my daughters love them. So now, I’m making some for gifts and a couple more to have on hand myself.<br />

Good thing we love our Minnesota backyard, because it sounds like we won’t be going anywhere else for awhile. Stay safe and healthy, wherever you are.</div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I’m sending 2019 off with a grateful, joyous heart. What a year it’s been! </span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We’ve been so busy all year, (as in past years) but this year was different. The “busy” was all for milestone celebrations. And two new babies to top the year off - becoming grandparents twice within less than 4 weeks is quite astounding on top of all that waiting!</span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">And here we are, wonderful celebrations, two healthy babies, Christmas is over, and we’re ready to ring in a New Year once again. I’m ready!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Can you imagine all the “firsts” that will occur in 2020? We are so very lucky to be close to our daughters' homes, and able to see and help out with our grandbabies. I see why we have children when we’re young - it’s exhausting! But, oh, so wonderful that they are not far away.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">In non-baby news, I have a beautiful new Janome Memory Craft 6600P sewing machine and table. My mom had this for awhile, but she prefers her Bernina machine. I love my older Janome, which I will keep handy as this new machine is specifically for quilting and doesn’t have an open arm for all of those bags I like to make. I have only practiced some new stitches and played with the settings so far, but I’m anxious to get on with some new sewing projects. Of which I have many, as always! Can one buy time somewhere? My sewing/craft room is full of inspiration.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I also opened an Etsy shop after much thought about it. (<a href="http://ahappybluebirdsnest.etsy.com/" target="_blank">ahappybluebirdsnest</a>) It won’t be huge, but I will add things here and there. I only have my tatted pennies there so far, but I will be adding some bags and other things as I get back into my habit of mass production. (Does anyone else do that? I find a great pattern and I just can’t help it!) I’m not sure how to run an Etsy shop, but I’ll wing it until I figure it out. I do know I need to research copyrights prior to placing anything for sale, otherwise I just need to get busy. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I did find time to squeeze some tatting in. I’m loving the onion ring patterns by Robin Perfetti at <a href="http://tattingbythebay.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Tatting by the Bay</a>. I’m still hoping to work on more of those patterns, too. (Now that I have that Catherine Wheel join mastered! Well, mostly mastered.)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Another new thing I did was join a local book club this past fall - it helps me to choose books outside of my usual preferences. And it’s super nice, because the group is large enough to choose 2 books each month - so I have 2 to ponder! I’m still enjoying audiobooks, so I can sew or tat (or even do dishes or laundry, God forbid) or listen while driving. I’m also planning to put up a <a href="https://littlefreelibrary.org/" target="_blank">Little Free Library</a> this year since we live near a park and walking path. Do you have one in your neighborhood? Hubby has agreed to build it for me. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you sick of me yet?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just wanted to break down my thoughts today and feel like I’m sorta caught up. So I can look back in a year or two and remember what a great year 2019 was.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I forgot to post this penny memento I made for my folks' anniversary. There are actually two pennies - the front one is 1959, and there’s a 2019 one on the back side. I dug through our large jar of pennies to see if there was a 1959 one by any chance. And yes! Success. Which led to an afternoon of sorting out significant years, lol.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLgbBBVvDeSKzOYsjyCPQAdMoSgi3p4O553PC28kQh1_a2OCrXcpTsSZZTsgQqpYaHawZgocI_hfpEfoVImm4vA5UdlET0CwespPEsbwHY1XDlgsatYI_YEMrd_rG7hlQODGIoaPcW0PX9/s1600/9089B328-BD05-402A-A007-A880F300B61C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1280" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLgbBBVvDeSKzOYsjyCPQAdMoSgi3p4O553PC28kQh1_a2OCrXcpTsSZZTsgQqpYaHawZgocI_hfpEfoVImm4vA5UdlET0CwespPEsbwHY1XDlgsatYI_YEMrd_rG7hlQODGIoaPcW0PX9/s320/9089B328-BD05-402A-A007-A880F300B61C.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The lace piece is from my mom's wedding dress, and was pretty hard to tie since the lace is quite brittle. A little glue should hold it there, though. I really love making the memento pennies for graduations, weddings and babies! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other project I had some fun with is more button tatting. Diane (<a href="https://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Lace Lovin' Librarian</a>) showed us her button tatting and shared many colorful buttons at our retreat in July. She is such an inspiration, and ever so generous with supplies. I got on a roll and matched up all of the buttons with different threads. I figured I’d use them to sew onto things, and just have on hand for various projects. Then ...</div>

I was pretty on board with seeing all of the different types of art, and started using my small tatted pieces to try this. The buttons and ice drops are perfect. (And a great way to promote tatting!) I need to update my note with my own contact info on it, as I’ve not seen any of my items on the page as “found” yet. I’d love to know their fate! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just another fun thing to do with some of the tatting I do just for enjoyment. </div>

Our 3rd Twin Cities Tatters Retreat is also in the 2019 books! Another fun retreat with great tatting friends - and we added a day this year, much to everyone's liking. Our first two retreats were each 2 nights, and we decided one more night would be better because by the time we settled in it was time to pack it up. The one extra night made a wonderful difference, and we felt like we really had a better chance to visit. I can’t believe I didn’t post this earlier - our retreat is at the end of July! I guess I had a few other things going on 😬<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had time for tatting, time for walks, time to go out to eat, and best of all, that extra time to visit.</div>

We each added a motif or two to this floating glass frame to leave at the retreat center. I’m pretty sure we're the only tatting group that uses this beautiful place - it appears to have more quilting, scrapbooking and embroidery groups.<br />
They definitely need tatting representation on the craft room walls!</div>

I’m going to have to focus on at least one blog post a month - if for no other reason than for myself to go back and look 😊 I do refer back on my blog for dates or milestones, and it is kind of a good journal when there’s no time or desire to write in an actual hard copy journal. I've kept many journals over the years, but the past few years I have found it to be hard to keep up. Either my life is boring, too busy, or I just have no desire to write about my day.<br />
<br />
In any case, it’s been a busy summer and a wonderful year! We had great fun celebrating my parents' 60th wedding anniversary in August with an open house style buffet. It was fun to see many of their family and friends there, and such a good time meeting those we’d never met. What a wonderful thing to celebrate - a true example of love and friendship for many years.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I’ve spent the year watching my two daughters go through their first pregnancies. They know so much nowadays - right down to exactly what is developing during every week. We had each of their baby showers, and it was fun to see all the good wishes they received. And as a first-time grandma of both a boy and a girl, I can tell you the baby clothes are soooo fun to shop for. (Tee hee!)<br />
<br />
I spent time making them each a quilt, and since I’m big on books, each quilt was made with a story center and given with the matching book. My sappy touch! I think they turned out beautifully, and hopefully will be used and loved.<br />
<br />

<br />
And now those babies are 6 weeks and 3 weeks old, and I’ve been lucky that they live close enough for me to get my gramma snuggles in weekly. Watching my daughters and their husbands go through the new parenting struggles is a reminder of how rough those early days can be - just trying to figure those little bundles out.<br />

<span style="font-family: "arial"; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> I haven’t posted since February? Life happens. <i>(OK, technology and social media happened</i></span><span style="font-family: arial; white-space: pre-wrap;"><i> too.)</i></span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Wow! It’s been a crazy, fun, busy summer for us so far. Myself and my family have so many exciting things going on - a summer to be remembered for certain!</span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">My brother and I are planning a 60th Anniversary celebration for our folks - an open house that will be great fun! We are looking forward to sharing that day with as many people as possible who have known our parents throughout the years. They have set an example of love and commitment for sure. What a wonderful anniversary to celebrate. </span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Our two daughters announced this spring that they are both expecting. Grandma status in October! BOTH OF THEM 😳 Their due dates are only 12 days apart, so it was a shock to say the least! It has been a fun few months so far hearing about the baby growth, tests, predictions, and eventually the gender reveals. Turns out we will have one grandson and one granddaughter. The shopping has been fun, I’m telling ya - those adorable baby clothes for both genders! And now we are getting to planning those baby showers. I can’t wait to meet these little people.</span></div>
<br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">How many people get to celebrate these milestones both with their parents and their kids within just a few months? Lucky us! </span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: small;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We also had a few graduations and other new babies in our lives, so I got to making my commemorative pennies. It took until about May to get some 2019 pennies, but now I have a bit of a stash. Here are a few gifted already: </span></span></div>

And today I received a special gift from a young High School gal. I work with her mom, who had told me that she was a creative seamstress, and was interested in design and quilting. I gave her some fabric that I was looking to donate somewhere, and she was thrilled! This was on my chair in my office this morning:</div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I think there were 80 days in January! Seriously. Yes, it’s hard to believe it’s already February, but January was long here in the frozen tundra. This week, we had such record breaking below zero weather that the U.S. Postal Service even shut down. No mail on Wednesday, and no schools for most of the week while we had -33 air temperatures with -54 wind chills. Dangerously cold for everyone. (Frozen water pipes add to the excitement.) But, here we are today with a high of about 36, and tomorrow’s high of 40. That’s a 70 degree swing in just 4 days! Typical Minnesota - big temperature swings. No wonder we don’t know how to dress from one day to the next. </span></div>

<br />
<div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">A bonus to hibernating for a few days is the opportunity to either tat or sew or create something - more hours than usual to spend in my cave studio. I stayed home from work on Wednesday and worked on a duffel bag I’ve had cut out since . . . well . . . for months. Today I will finish the straps, and it will be usable. For my next getaway. Hopefully somewhere warmer than here. </span></div>

This is from my 2016 <a href="http://www.quiltminnesota.com/" target="_blank">Quilt Minnesota</a> Fabric. I love to get some each year because it’s limited, and it just represents “home”. (<i>Notice</i> <i>there</i> <i>are</i> <i>no</i> <i>winter</i> <i>scenes</i> <i>in</i> <i>this</i> <i>particular line!) </i> The 2019 fabric is gorgeous - I can’t wait to get some of that for a future project. </div>

Other than weather, January was fun. We met my folks and my brother’s family for a buffet lunch at a casino for my Dad’s birthday one Saturday - I actually won a few $ this time. Nothing big, but considering I usually just lose $20 within 15 minutes, it was a good day. I also tried out wheel throwing pottery with one of my daughters - another fun hobby I could get into, but what a mess! I still need to wash the clay off the shoes I wore 😬.<br />

I’ve been meaning to do them, but didn’t really think they were terribly interested. The weddings were in 2015 and 2016. My daughters LOVE them - makes me happy knowing they really are interested, they just don’t ask for these things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFLnHNDeYnUubVGuUjsxTGHjgfJUhZ2hS2EIsD5xo95zcHhdqDx_GIV3esLVphdtIOUW2nnysUYLonF96UAzSZG3oPz32I3WSwsCs-pPE70hOze_xSWk4TgFpGFwF3bjLaaZ6lQ7O58Ao5/s1600/IMG_3512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFLnHNDeYnUubVGuUjsxTGHjgfJUhZ2hS2EIsD5xo95zcHhdqDx_GIV3esLVphdtIOUW2nnysUYLonF96UAzSZG3oPz32I3WSwsCs-pPE70hOze_xSWk4TgFpGFwF3bjLaaZ6lQ7O58Ao5/s320/IMG_3512.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCWP5d_PtKujShHNxLSMK12kBzsX8H4oMGXacVRtcLXRFPn9DwZGTWj6r2KkbZ1Tz2S43osuv1fGq9TeU4x6_t3rdJLBkzaQMKZrNW_x8wGmN4QUakCLrypxMf1mDLqkE9wCH4uiBv73Xo/s1600/IMG_3511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCWP5d_PtKujShHNxLSMK12kBzsX8H4oMGXacVRtcLXRFPn9DwZGTWj6r2KkbZ1Tz2S43osuv1fGq9TeU4x6_t3rdJLBkzaQMKZrNW_x8wGmN4QUakCLrypxMf1mDLqkE9wCH4uiBv73Xo/s320/IMG_3511.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to include their wedding party colors, as well as a little piece of lace from the day. The lace was significant for both of them. One daughter was married on her grandparent’s anniversary, and I CUT my mom’s wedding dress up to make straps and a belt for her dress. (See my face of horror <a href="https://ahappybluebird.blogspot.com/2015/05/dragging-my-feet.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>). My other daughter had me CUT my dress for her headpiece. <a href="https://ahappybluebird.blogspot.com/2016/10/more-crafty-wedding-stuff.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> is that beautiful chunk of my dress!<br />
<br />
So both memento pennies have a little lace attached. It just seemed like it had to be there.<br />

Now the search is on for 2019 pennies for the upcoming babies, graduations and weddings. I really do love making little mementos for such special occasions.Cindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10179656803101670399noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-436608725578367078.post-75929179010313068482018-12-31T08:53:00.003-06:002018-12-31T08:53:41.147-06:002018 Word of the Year: Wisdom<h2 style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; color: #2a2a2a; display: inline; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, "Times New Roman", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 8px; padding: 4px 0px;">

Wisdom about life, death, careers, families, homes, traditions, education, politics, and the list goes on. My opinions and beliefs don’t change, but I often think about what experiences someone with differing opinions has had in life that has shaped their wisdom. Look at this beautiful little bluebird I received from my Secret Santa:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Adorable, no? And so perfectly tatted. My gift included the pattern by Kaye Judt - my Santa. I’m anxious to set aside some time to try this little cutie! The Secret Santa fun was organized by Lisa at the Tatting Corner - such fun! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My gift also included one of the new bobbin organizers - I’ve been looking at these! A great addition for carrying and organizing bobbins (they are currently all over the place 😬) Will 2019 be the year of organization? </div>

Happiest of Holidays to all! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don’t forget to enjoy the music, the lights and the decorations while nibbling on goodies 😉</div>

I was gifted a pretty Japanese shuttle and some metallic Lizbeth thread when I lost my sweet Ruby. When our Twin Cities Tatters group met yesterday, I decided to work on a snowflake from Jon Yusoff’s snowflake patterns, and was wondering who the heck might want a “purple” snowflake!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2voFgL9JDjWy6ddEa-_qPXStW1dw68yHEx6_dNAt4KUBMpqEGUaxpdnrIKIpE3p9Yur9nx30Qn8XNehmb3KBb2OpRQvVahtaABRGM5CSZJjhkIa2jp11XpnRro_9K-UffzDuBkab74q1F/s1600/IMG_3113.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2voFgL9JDjWy6ddEa-_qPXStW1dw68yHEx6_dNAt4KUBMpqEGUaxpdnrIKIpE3p9Yur9nx30Qn8XNehmb3KBb2OpRQvVahtaABRGM5CSZJjhkIa2jp11XpnRro_9K-UffzDuBkab74q1F/s320/IMG_3113.HEIC" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I was finishing the snowflake, I realized I was using the shuttle and thread gifted to me by my friend after losing my sweet sidekick, Ruby. There was no better use for a purple snowflake than to remember my sweet Ruby!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_JQ37EeLVkzNaZ1xXsuGfpcaZYSIPsvl1g8WO1dvL5RVHjM1RM14_yG4zavveWXMk0pal-Fi3v303Fg9BSz2bL6zgYyGgWX2u7dIklv5Vp1pmqhAW6jL3HxINIgvzerdymCK-a7qk1x1/s1600/IMG_3107.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_JQ37EeLVkzNaZ1xXsuGfpcaZYSIPsvl1g8WO1dvL5RVHjM1RM14_yG4zavveWXMk0pal-Fi3v303Fg9BSz2bL6zgYyGgWX2u7dIklv5Vp1pmqhAW6jL3HxINIgvzerdymCK-a7qk1x1/s320/IMG_3107.HEIC" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ruby loved the snow (which we are not celebrating at the moment!) and this was a perfect way to remember her with every stitch from this wonderful gift! 💜 This will be Ruby’s ornament on our tree for years to come.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like the addition of the bead and charm at the bottom - it helps the snowflake to hang straight. While the Lizbeth metallic makes a nice, sturdy snowflake, the bead and charm just add some flair! I will be adding similar decor to my other snowflakes - just simple, but a nice addition.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think I may cut the ribbon tails a little shorter - what do you think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

It’s WAY too early, but in the past couple of days we’ve gotten our first snow of the season, along with those traffic reports of many cars in the ditches, and “watch out for the plows!” </div>

<br />
Colder than usual temperatures, too! It’s so unfair - we never even really had fall, my favorite time of year! It’s going to be a long winter, I’m afraid.<br />
<br />
This can only mean it’s time to get going on more Christmas decorations! I love the ice drops using just white thread with red gems and beads - so that is what I’ll be working on along with my snowflakes. <br />

Our weather in Minnesota has been unseasonably COLD! Our average temps this time of year are about 60 F, and we’ve had 40’s. Brrrr! There was even a little snow last weekend, but it melted quickly (thank heavens!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaBAOpIfDYSUlu8M2wCoayuCSgJvWehzM3Q5U3-YyE3T4bcBGwm9AfkzR0zQtpTezDYCz95CdCkQ9HVoz2j-M4ChGo1j8Ztpb4XB1h8JUoe6LQf3BgJBSFek0vikqCxGnRlABdoXWYSFE/s1600/IMG_2962.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaBAOpIfDYSUlu8M2wCoayuCSgJvWehzM3Q5U3-YyE3T4bcBGwm9AfkzR0zQtpTezDYCz95CdCkQ9HVoz2j-M4ChGo1j8Ztpb4XB1h8JUoe6LQf3BgJBSFek0vikqCxGnRlABdoXWYSFE/s320/IMG_2962.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been working on the “secret quilt”, so I haven’t been tatting. I’ve also been working on a weekend duffel for ME! Unfortunately, I’m at a bit of a standstill until I can re-cut my straps. I can’t find the hardware required in the pattern, so I’ll have to do a bit of adjusting to the fabric I’ve already cut. No problem, I just need to have a good block of time to think straight so I don’t make errors that I can’t correct. Dang it, I hate when patterns need something that I can’t run to Joann’s and get with a coupon!<br />
<br />

<br />
My sweet sidekick - Ruby - has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was 12 years and 3 months old, which is pretty old for a boxer. She was “losing her legs” and experiencing tipping and tripping, and I was terrified that she would fall down the stairs in our home while I was at work. We’d been watching the progress all summer, and it started to deteriorate quickly. My heart is broken and we miss her presence so much! All the daily routines have changed.<br />

Are you joining in on the Tatting Corner Secret Santa Exchange? I am! Email Lisa@tattingcorner.com if you’re interested! I haven’t participated in an exchange for several years, but it really is fun. I’m looking forward to doing it again.<br />
<br />
Last weekend, I attended a lecture by Kaffe Fassett, well known for vibrant, colorful fabric designs. I love the Kaffe fabric collection, and can’t wait to get creative with some of his fabric. So many ideas, so little time - as usual. The lecture was great - so many good thoughts about where inspiration really comes from. Everywhere! Look at the color around you. I love vibrant color, but my home is rather boring and “safe” with tan painted walls 😬.<br />

Driving from Minnesota through South Dakota and Nebraska is not the most exciting drive in the world, but we made the best of it!<br />
<br />
We stopped at the Chamberlain, South Dakota Visitor and Information Center, which also commemorates the Lewis and Clark expedition. There’s a great view of the Missouri River from here.<br />
<br />
This new sculpture named ‘Dignity’ is a 50’ tall stainless steel statue of an indigenous woman receiving a star quilt - a prized gift of the Northern Plains Indians. <br />

The quilt has lights on it at night - visible from the highway. Would’ve been fun to see it all lit up!<br />

Once we reached Colorado, we did some horseback riding and hiking - and most of all, just thoroughly enjoyed the views! What a beautiful area - I really do love the mountains. The temperatures were unseasonably warm in the upper 70’s and 80, and there were LOTS of people there doing the same thing we were, which we did not expect mid-September.<br />
<br />
We stayed in Estes Park, Colorado - a tourist town near Rocky Mountain National Park. We could walk to all of the shops and restaurants, so it was very convenient. Our goal was to have mountain views and do some hiking - what a beautiful place!<br />

Wow - the summer has flown by! And it’s been a HOT, HUMID one. Or raining. It seems like we’ve been inside a lot to avoid either rain or heat. Some years are just like that.<br />
<br />
Fall is my favorite time of year, though. I like weather that I can wear t-shirt and jeans or a tank top and shorts, and be comfortable either way. A sweatshirt in the evening as it cools down. Not asking for much, am I? Ha! I love it warm and sunny during the day, but cool and crisp at night. Fall doesn’t last nearly long enough for me.<span style="text-align: center;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The back yard is beginning to show signs of fall - the tiniest tinge of red is out there. It becomes red really fast, and is so pretty in the fall.</div>

I’ve been playing with ice drops and colors this week - matching ribbon and gems and thread. Color matching is one of my favorite things to do - with both thread and fabric projects.<br />
<br />
This one is Liz Metallic thread (Gemstone) with a clear gem that I’ve added glitter nail polish to the back side. Not such bright color, but a bit sparkly in a very subtle way. This pattern is Diane’s Bloomin’ Ice Drop. I really do like tatting with the Liz Metallic - rings are easier to open, tatting has a nice stability to it, and it has just a bit of sparkle. It is comparable to size 20 thread, but works up just a bit larger.<br />

This one has one of my favorite color gems - turquoise. Lizbeth Island Breeze #130 thread goes perfectly with this gem. This one is Diane’s newest pattern “Frivolity”found with many more patterns on the Ice Drop Addicts Facebook page.90<br />

I’ve also been working on the secret 30th birthday quilt - I can’t believe my baby will be 30! Time goes so quickly, yet it seems like only yesterday we were running two little girls to piano lessons and volleyball and softball and school events. But it sure is fun to see those two little girls as wonderful, caring, productive adults!<br />
<br />
Two more weeks until we have a vacation to Colorado planned - mountain views are in my future!Cindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10179656803101670399noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-436608725578367078.post-53679988604189166632018-08-23T14:15:00.001-05:002018-08-23T14:15:23.674-05:00Square/Diamond Motif<br />
Ta da! I love this little motif just as much as the first one! Now I have matching motifs for the fabric I used on my bags - how fun is that? Love the fabric, and love the motifs.<br />
<br />

<br />
Such a talent to be able to whip up these patterns so quickly, and then have a video tutorial as well. The pattern for this square/diamond is on Frivole's blog <a href="http://leblogdefrivole.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a> with a video to soon follow. I can see the visual circle in this little motif as talked about on the pattern blog post. Such interesting tricks our eyes can play on us! I have been wondering about trying this in a smaller thread, and attaching it to the zipper for an added zipper pull. Maybe stiffened? Hhhmmmm.<br />
<br />
In my non-tatting life, my bathroom remodel is FINALLY complete, including inspections. We can finally move our "stuff" back in - trying to be neat about it and only bring back the items we <i>really</i> need in the new vanity. Wonder how long that will last?<br />

(She’s now my “Penny Dealer”!) Last year I made pennies for a couple of brides and a few babies. This year, it’s all about the babies! Every baby needs a birth year penny, right?<br />

The other goal since our tatting retreat was to make a bracelet that we talked about. It was on a Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/217302825579317/permalink/222477401728526/" target="_blank">post</a>, and I was intrigued at how the beads were added onto the split rings. I finally was able to sit down and try this today - what a quick and easy project! (I see why <a href="https://telamagistrae.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2018-08-21T19:13:00-05:00&max-results=1" target="_blank">Michelle</a> made FOUR!) </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like these quick, easy projects as a little diversion from a larger doily project. I’m still plugging away at Renulek’s Spring Doily 2018. I’ve just decided to enjoy tatting it, and not make myself crazy trying to finish it :) </div>

I need to work on the bare thread lengths, but I have the pattern down! <br />
<br />
It took me a couple of re-starts and some running out of thread, but now I feel like I can make a “good” piece. The directions are perfectly clear; it was my haste to complete this one that made the mistakes. This is the part of tatting that I find so difficult - practicing a small piece over and over again to get the pattern right - I just want to make whatever it is I’m tatting and get it done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJROAGSUlQtPYtMx_h-YXNPwAECXh6YiWPTpHluEES5hPrTH94Ho62Xjgjby586Pf2twmxjytgcH6NjYDvd8o0TdGLP1_nGvf7snnzBmHVgLsO71-NQYagIAUop5dbooNP_zn6BGvH-UC2/s1600/IMG_2339.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJROAGSUlQtPYtMx_h-YXNPwAECXh6YiWPTpHluEES5hPrTH94Ho62Xjgjby586Pf2twmxjytgcH6NjYDvd8o0TdGLP1_nGvf7snnzBmHVgLsO71-NQYagIAUop5dbooNP_zn6BGvH-UC2/s320/IMG_2339.HEIC" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One-Shuttle Medallion</div>
<br />
It is so great that Frivole has the know-how and talent to create a pattern by just looking at this fabric. I would have never even thought of that - I’m just happy to have a pattern to follow most of the time. I’m no designer!<br />
<br />
Here’s a <a href="http://leblogdefrivole.blogspot.com/2018/08/square-or-rectangle.html#comment-form" target="_blank">link to Frivole’s blog post</a> with the pattern. She has added a link to her YouTube video as well to show how the medallion is worked with one shuttle. Her post also shows several medallions joined together - it’s amazing how the medallions take on a square shape when joined together. <br />
<br />
I’m looking forward to doing a few more of these!<br />
<br />

Just thought I’d share a few of my purchases for planned projects. (And because <a href="http://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Diane</a> wanted to see 😉) Plans that, of course, will probably get put on hold when something else catches my eye. Ha!<br />
<br />
There was an extra cute rug at one shop, so I had to peek at the pattern to see what all it might entail. Had to get the pattern - I have PLENTY of fabric to try this!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn3v7z8MvxRhPGKe36G_KF231CWzRIlDejjiO3Ex6I-OvUWjSmbiLfv0JPq9UHnh3Az4ySFTIXF_e_yjGwEW5W6nrD4O31pWTMJOrNvwuyag6Y9BJjlYmXtnZIH8f-YfOWqu-S6PhsYYLx/s1600/IMG_2274.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn3v7z8MvxRhPGKe36G_KF231CWzRIlDejjiO3Ex6I-OvUWjSmbiLfv0JPq9UHnh3Az4ySFTIXF_e_yjGwEW5W6nrD4O31pWTMJOrNvwuyag6Y9BJjlYmXtnZIH8f-YfOWqu-S6PhsYYLx/s320/IMG_2274.HEIC" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was also collecting some background fabric for another collage quilt project I hope to work on this winter to hang in my sewing/crafting cave/studio. Isn’t this a cute collage for a sewing room?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reds and florals will not be hard to gather from my stash, but I wanted to collect some plain background fabrics of words or newsprint on white/cream. Hopefully I can put a layout of these together as a base to start adding the bright reds and pinks. I’m not sure if these are too dark or not - but I won’t know until I start laying everything out. Maybe I can be creative enough to keep the darker ones to the outside edges.</div>

I was also collecting a specific color of fat quarters for work on the next 30th birthday quilt. The one that needs to be a secret for a couple of months yet, but here’s the color scheme I was collecting:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The main reason for the quilt shop hop was the Minnesota fabric. This is designed each year by a Minnesota designer, and is sold beginning the end of July until sold out. There are no re-orders, so if you don’t get what you want before it sells out, you are out of luck unless it shows up on Etsy or something. This year’s fabric didn’t intrigue me as much as past years, but I did get a yard of the most popular fabric - it was selling out quickly everywhere. Each shop also gave out their own quilt block design pattern with a square from the 2018 line. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I’m pretty sure I can find something to do with those red poppies - love that fabric!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And last, [but certainly not least!] I picked up a small kit of Kaffe Fasset fabric. He is a fabulous artist known for his use of color in textiles and knitting. I will be attending his color lecture here in October, and find it difficult to choose from all of his bright, beautiful fabrics. This kit helps me have the fabric and eliminates the work of putting it together myself! I’m sure there will be more of this fabric in my future - probably after the lecture.</div>

I always try to cram a little too much into my days off. <br />
<br />
Monday to Wednesday - TATTING RETREAT! We sure had a great time, we have found a wonderful place, and already have our reservation for 2019! <br />
<br />
This is our magnificent 8 that have attended our first two retreats, and are signed up for the 3rd Annual retreat in 2019:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNn6vFeCjL2PfwJ9Dc67V9w3B1RhNAGjLQJ-wT5xzePwWUfhWQYVOl4lTyZNukuLF4E9TR6tf-mRyXn_O7rWw3nWOiTFypvjjE_CfXSiPLlPznh-FUQPBLvCg8A_L6fJPNy9267zZlHTPy/s1600/IMG_2018.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1203" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNn6vFeCjL2PfwJ9Dc67V9w3B1RhNAGjLQJ-wT5xzePwWUfhWQYVOl4lTyZNukuLF4E9TR6tf-mRyXn_O7rWw3nWOiTFypvjjE_CfXSiPLlPznh-FUQPBLvCg8A_L6fJPNy9267zZlHTPy/s320/IMG_2018.HEIC" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://leblogdefrivole.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Frivole</a> was wonderful to create our special commemorative shuttle again this year. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are my absolute favorite shuttles to work with. Isn’t this lovely? The Minnesota State Flower (the Pink Ladyslipper) is on the front, and our retreat dates along with the modified Quatrain on the back side. What shall we do for our 2019 shuttle?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The retreat “house” is beautiful with a nice entry to greet us. It was a little warm to sit outside, but there is a great area to sit, have a bonfire and even have a short hike. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We even took a little side trip to a local winery - a beautiful day to enjoy some hors d’oeuvres and wine on the vineyard patio!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Wednesday, I had a funeral to attend, and then made my way home. Boy, was I tired! So much inspiration in two-and-a-half short days, and then reliving memories was exhausting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thursday I attended a baby shower for a coworker, and then in the evening I attended a GED graduation commencement ceremony. My daughter is an Adult Basic Education instructor, and this was her first commencement ceremony with students that she has been working with. To see them succeed in this one goal was wonderful, and to hear their anticipation for the future was undeniably gratifying. Most graduates were in their young 20’s, but one special graduate was 87 years old. She had about 70 family members there to celebrate her accomplishment - something she had a passion to achieve. The circumstances of these graduates, no matter their story, made it all worth attending. I didn’t know one of them, but I was moved to see their proud event. Even more proud to see their interaction and thanks to my daughter for helping them with this achievement!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Friday, I went on an all day Quilt Shop Hop. And I’m talking ALL DAY. 6:45 am to 7:00 pm. Exhausting! But so fun. I chose to go alone on the bus this year, but you’re never really alone with fellow quilters. We visited 8 quilt shops during the 2018 “Quilt Minnesota” event. The special fabric created by a Minnesota designer is featured, and I usually try to get some each year. Because it is limited, it is a rush to get some! But ALL. DAY. LONG. on a bus is tiring. At the last shop, we were treated to a glass of wine. </div>

A great week in tatting AND in quilting!</div>

Haven’t been tatting, but I made myself some . . . wait for it . . . BAGS to cart around my tatting stuff. Surprised? Ha ha - I just love making bags, especially bags that zip closed. <br />
This is some fun fabric with tatting on it - a rare find, so of course I hoarded it awhile until the perfect thing came to me. This was perfect! 😊<br />

Today is Ruby’s 12th birthday. This is a significant day for her, as boxers usually have a life span of 9-12 years. She’s an overachiever! She is such a sweet dog - boxers are loyal, protective (sometimes too much) and hilarious comedians. My 2 year old in fur - her expression is like a child, hanging on every word.</div>

My daughter LOVES alpacas, and arranged for us to visit a local alpaca farm recently. The couple that owns these beauties are so very nice, and told us all about showing them, and how each of them has different fiber quality for spinning into yarn. They are very sweet! The yarn is beautiful, but I’m really avoiding starting that collection!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This little one was orphaned at only about a month old, so she is extremely friendly after being bottle-fed and handled a lot. I was thinking about how nice it would be to sit in a stall with her cuddled up beside me while I read a book. (Ha. I don’t think they are really very cuddly, but it would be fun anyway.)</div>
